understanding chemical processes

an industry-sponsored learning programme for academia

design of the learning programme

We have designed this programme to meet the needs of a wide variety of participants with differing needs and preferred learning styles. The emphasis is on interactivity and problem-solving in small groups. We do not judge the success of our workshops by what people do in the classroom. Of greater importance to us is the ability of the participants to share learnings back in the University and to apply the techniques to their own research projects.

theory

When we cover the technical aspects, the focus is on de-mystifying the jargon and emphasising the underlying science.

workshop simulations

Computer-based simulations of chemical processes allow participants to use their general chemical knowledge and experience to explore different strategies in solving typical challenges encountered in industry and academia.

laboratory of life

The 'Laboratory of Life' workshops are key design components of the learning program. Being good with the technical aspects of design is not enough. Knowing when and how to implement is critical - particularly the practical aspects.

back of an envelope

In these sessions, individuals and teams explore how they could apply the techniques they have learned to their own research projects. Both chemistry and practical implementation issues are discussed.

A great team-working opportunity!
